The largest diesel, Vale of Ffestiniog, has had some attention to its wheelsets and is ready for traffic again.
By contrast, the smallest, Hunslet Harold, which arrived in 1993 just before the ‘Hunslet 100’ event, has also just returned to traffic after a long time awaiting a replacement clutch. It is now back in action fulfilling its long term duties of shunting locos around the works.
The former mainline stalwarts ‘planets’ Upnor Castle and Conway Castle are present in the works also, with Upnor Castle available for freight and shunting duties whilst Conway Castle is undergoing gearbox repairs.
Meanwhile, World War 1 former petrol tractor Moelwyn can also be regularly seen around the works and on the main line. It was in use shunting the chassis of under restoration Kerr Stuart 4415.
Some details on the history and restoration of this machine can be found here .
