Supporters of the Railway will be well aware of the significant amount of infrastructure work being conducted on the FR over this winter. Adding to this lengthy list is the re-roofing of the engineering depot at Glan y Pwll. The roofing work itself is being undertaken by contractors but volunteer working parties were involved in preparatory works and will also be engaged in various tasks following its completion.
The new roof has been funded entirely by a grant from the Ffestiniog Railway Society, with the majority of these funds coming from a specific legacy. The FRS has been in the fortunate position of receiving various legacies in recent years that have been used to make a significant difference to the FR’s building estate. A great thanks must go to all of our supporters who have thought of the FRS in their Will.
It is hoped that the now watertight building will be the home of the Mountaineer project to return the Alco locomotive to steam, for which substantial sums have already been raised.
