The Society Board have funded the construction of a new Double Fairlie boiler to the tune of £120,000.
The first major assembled parts have arrived at Boston Lodge – being one of the boiler barrels.
The boiler has been designed at Boston Lodge and forms the basis for the new double fairlie James Spooner, to be constructed in house. This will use the power bogies from the now withdrawn Earl of Merioneth. An appeal was launched to allow the preservation of many of the significant parts of the Earl to be retained on that loco for future resuscitation.

The boiler is designed to also fit the existing double engines Merddin Emrys and Earl of Merioneth.
