The £260,000 appeal to restore Welsh Pony to traffic saw the loco’s steaming at the end of June after 80 years out of traffic.
With the relaunching of the Ffestiniog Railway passenger trains to Tan y Bwlch only on a daily basis due to COVID19, the services require short trains of compartment stock and is therefore ideal as a running in turn for Welsh Pony, alongside fellow England loco Prince and the ‘Ladies’ Linda and Blanche.
Details of the services and how to travel are found here. It is an hourly service to Tan y Bwlch where you get about an hour at Tan y Bwlch to visit the tearoom for a bite to eat or a drink, or explore some of the numerous paths local to the station, before returning on the same train.
Welsh Pony was used on the initial trial trains on Saturday 18th July and has been used on many days since.
