After ten years of intensive service, Merddin Emrys was withdrawn from service today, Monday 14 September.
Merddin re-entered traffic in June 2005 in the culmination of a joint volunteer and works project to restore the flagship loco to traffic after nearly a decade out of use. The work was financed by the Ffestiniog Railway Society to the tune of £185,000 which included significant boiler repairs and brand new bogies.
This time round, it is intended for Merddin to re-enter traffic much sooner following the mandatory work of retubing the boiler and other overhaul work.
From the Porthmadog webcam, Merddin Emrys can be seen arriving at Porthmadog on the last service.
