The London Area Group (LAG) was set up in 1955 when the line was first re-opened and despite its distance from the Railway, was a major supplier of funds and labour for many years.
In 2015 the LAG celebrates its Diamond Jubilee and celebrates with a whole-line special train, details below.
The Group has now ceased to meet. However, many former members are still actively engaged with the railway.

This is a whole-line (FR&WHR) special train which will run on Friday 19th June, followed by a Diamond Jubilee Dinner at the Royal Sportsman Hotel in Porthmadog on Saturday 20th June. Bookings for either to Kim Winter (01727 762343 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
This is the Group’s main fundraising activity: attending various events, especially in the model railway and model engineering world. We sell a variety of stock, some official railway goods, others from all sorts of organisations. Those who do not have much time to give to the railway can help by stewarding for just a few hours. Contact Elizabeth Cook, 8 Pinewood Avenue, Sevenoaks, Kent TN14 5AF. T: 01732 452706.
On Friday 25th March 2011, a very special train ran over the entire 80 mile length of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways. Details of the day, organised entirely by the London Area Group, can be found here.
This can vary from small individual activities to re-building quite large items for the railway. Over the past few years we have provided station seats and signs and undertaken the re-building of wagons. For details of the current homework activities contact Martin Cook, 8 Pinewood Avenue, Sevenoaks, Kent TN14 5AF. T: 01732 452706.
Because of the variety of items which can be donated to the Railway from the London area, the organising of them being transported to North Wales has become part of the Group’s activities. Sometimes it can be just a small amount, but sometimes it’s whole lorry loads. Whenever the Railway has been offered items, we check with the Heads of Department to see where they need to go – and who is going to use them. In this way any donations to the Railway are effectively used up in North Wales, Contact Ron Walker, T: 01525 240444, E: email@example.com
The Group offers a lecture service to provide interested audiences with talks on various aspects of the Ffestiniog Railway or the new Welsh Highland Railway. This can vary from a small meeting to large community halls and After Dinner Speaking, etc. The lecture usually consists of twin slide projects of 35mm slides. We can still show 16mm films and where appropriate a video can be shown. Contact Ron Walker, T: 01525 240444, E: firstname.lastname@example.org
